Day two

Today I spent the day working at the gravure bench with Nelly Gable filing, and engraving a punch and also practicing the technique for getting a letter on the face of the punch. Hard work for the hands and eyes. With the filing one has to get the angles right, with the engraving one gets inside the letter and cuts away the material. The other technique marks the line of the letter to be cut, exactly and has to have neither too much nor too little pressure. I felt so tired in the afternoon that I had to push myself to continue, as my eyes ached and my hands were stiff from holding the punch tight in my left hand.

In the evening Nelly and her companion Gill, took me to Paris for dinner. We stopped at  the Notre Dame cathedral and walked in the jardin called the Square du Vert Galant, (green lover ? square).
