Working around the Composition Casters

My friend Gahlord Dewald came and we did some work around the comp casters, photographing the status of the machine as it was when Dan Carr last worked on it and then clearing the top tray. We melted the pot and took off the bridge, then took off the type mould. After we clean the mould thoroughly, we will replace it and the bridge and attempt to cast some Perpetua type. We hope to work on typesetting and casting Haiku’s as a practice run.

I came across some old Thomas Registers while cleaning and I include here a selection of what I found there. It was the Google of the non digital world and it was from 1985, seemingly an age ago but when the shop was fairly new here in NH. We were given them from the manufacturing place across the street. I know that Dan did use them at least once to get a friction fit press ring.
