Day one: type adventure: Refounding Punchcutting at Golgonooza

Yesterday Nelly Gable and her son Stephane arrived in Boston. We visited Harvard University before driving to Ashuelot NH and the Golgonooza Letter Foundry. Nelly Gable is the renowned French punchcutter that works at the Imprimerie Nationale, near Paris, where they have continued an unbroken tradition of making and using punches for 500 years, since the beginnings of making movable type.

She is here to teach me punchcutting, as I am taking up the challenge to continue this typographic art at Golgonooza Letter Foundry & Press, to pick up where Dan Carr left off, and utilize his tools and carry forward the vision that Dan and I shared.
