Got the train this a.m. to Kingham on the Hereford line, where we met John Randal and visited the Whittington Press. We spent the afternoon talking to their caster person, Neill Winter about running the large composition caster. We also looked at the Super Caster and discussed all the parts that are needed for making display type, which is the main thing I need it for. Even still, each size of type needs to be set up with a checklist that is reasonably extensive.

During a break, we walked around the property and viewed the historic home and barns that are there, next to the ancient church that had some delightful hand lettering on the wall.

We stopped in at a pub near the train station to wait before our train arrived, and I had a hard cider, reminding me of times in my 20’s when I came to England alone, to paint or in search of the English jazz scene, and first tried hard cider or scrumpy (homemade version). Took the train home and enjoyed the beautiful Cotswold landscapes at dusk. When back at the hostel we encountered some enthusiastic youths in the kitchen that we talked to about what we were doing here, while we ate our takeout Japanese noodles.
John gave me several nice posters, which I plan on putting up in my shop to help get a new energy going with new images on the walls.
