Today was the first day Nelly Gable and I worked in the shop at Golgonooza Letter Foundry, refounding the punchcutting part of the vision here. I showed Nelly the punches and workbench of my beloved partner Dan Carr and she began to clean it and make note of what was there and where it was used. I saw Nelly put her spirit into re-energizing the space and my heart cried out in joy and sorrow as we re-claimed that place of deep creativity. My heart felt the incredible feelings of loss and retrieval … of the significant beauty of endings and beginnings, as what had lapsed into stillness was being swept clean and was ready to start again.
I will finish the Regulus numbers that Dan started and was unable to finish. The zero, one, six, eight, and nine. The design is done but the punches need to be completed. We also discovered that the numbers finished so far were not annealed yet. My heart wonders why. Today I also am learning about the tools.
During the day Mark Katzman and Courtney Sennish came by. Mark is working on a photogravure edition of photographs of Vietnam.
After work we went to Brattleboro, Vt for dinner with Brian Ireland, Zoe Ireland, and Ian Proctor, and talked in both French and English. I showed the Trois Fontaines book—The Reach of the Heart, and read a couple of poems from the book (poems by Dan Carr, monotypes, by Julia Ferrari).
